Ufer des Verschwindens – shore of disappearance
stage and costume design, 2024
Theater unterm Dach, Berlin
A Studio Rubín, Prague
Lakes shrink, shores spread, villages reappear and an endemic fish begins to speak. As the climate changes and the landscape transforms, conflicts erupt between the generations. On her way into the woods, a girl searches for a way to stop the catastrophe after all.
In Ufer des Verschwindens, the theater collaborative Futur II Konjunktiv tells absurd, almost fairytale-like stories of people on disappearing waters. Inspired by research on lakes in Brandenburg, in Lusatia and in ski resorts in Erz mountains, fact and fiction blend to create a reality that could not be more urgent. The fantastic story of the end of the world as we know it playing out in slow motion before our eyes revolves around helplessness, the longing for unaltered 'normality' and the question of how to act responsibly in this situation. In absurdly comical, but also magical-realistic encounters, the focus is always on failure and the establishment of communication.
