Leonie Ohlow designs set designs, kinetic objects, and costumes for theater, film, and the visual arts. A key part of Leonie’s creative process involves collecting, examining, and reinterpreting objects, materials, electronic waste, and scrap—Leonie patiently uncovers their stories, tinkers, repurposes them, and develops new techniques. Leonie studied scenography, curatorial studies & dramaturgical practice, media art and philosophy in Karlsruhe (Diploma in 2020) and Tallinn, Estonia. Aside from working freelance on various projects, Leonie has served as a guest lecturer in the Scenography Department at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (2021/22), as a full-time stage and costume assistant at Theaterhaus Jena (season 2021/22), and as a set design assistant for film. Solo and collaborative works have been shown at venues such as Ballhaus Ost, Theaterhaus Jena, the Max Ophüls Prize Film Festival with Janina Capelle, the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe with Hanna Müller, A Studio Rubin in Prague, Theater Rotterdam, Werkleitz Festival Halle. Leonie has also collaborated with Städtische Galerie Karlsruhe, Johanna Hedva (e.g. for Gropius Bau in Berlin), and Juliane Schmitt (for Kunstverein Wilhelmshöhe). Leonie lives in Leipzig, completed a mediation training in 2025 and, since January 2026, has been working as a mediator in addition to the artistic practice.
