ABOUT
Leonie Ohlow designs and produces scenographies, special (kinetic) objects and costumes for theater, film and fine arts. An important part of her working method is collecting and examining things, materials, electrical waste, scrap – she patiently discovers the narratives of things and their symbolism, tinkers, re-functions and works out new techniques. In her performative and installative works she experiments with body & object as equal actors. She studied scenography, curatorial studies & dramaturgical practice, media art and philosophy at the Karlsruhe University of Arts and Design (2014-2020). In 2018 she spent eight months in Tallinn where she studied scenography and blacksmithing at Eesti Kunstiakadeemia Tallinn. From 2018 to 2020 she was a scholarship holder of the German National Academic Foundation and 2021 she received the Denkzeit work grant from the Cultural Foundation of the Free State of Saxony. She worked as a guest lecturer in the department of scenography at Karlsruhe University of Arts and Desig (2021/22) and as permanent assistant stage and costume designer at Theaterhaus Jena (season 2021/22). She lives in Leipzig.
